The Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia (PCFA) was presented with a $31,230 donation on Friday 25th July, 2008 from monies raised during the Quintrex Offshore Relay (18 May - 29 June, 2008).
The presentation of the giant cheque to Mr Graeme Higgs, PCFA Manager for Queensland and Northern Territory took place at the Telwater (Quintrex) factory with over 150 Telwater staff in attendance.
Quintrex Offshore Relay Coordinator Cameron Wood said everyone involved in the Relay was excited to contribute to such a worthy cause.
“With the boating industry and recreational boating heavily dominated by males, choosing a charity of choice for the Quintrex Offshore Relay was simple,” Cameron said.
“Our staff, dealers, sponsors and the greater community got behind the event and ultimately enabled us to raise awareness of prostate cancer and contribute to the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia’s fight against the disease.
“We were ecstatic to be able to present the PCFA with over $30,000 and hope it makes a difference,” he said.
Mr Graeme Higgs, Queensland and Northern Territory Manager for the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia is grateful to the Quintrex Offshore Relay team for their generosity, and for recognising prostate cancer as a disease that impacts the lives of so many.
“These vital funds will help PCFA to continue raising awareness about prostate cancer – the most common cancer diagnosed in Australia (excluding non-melanoma skin cancer); provide support for the more than 18,700 Australian men diagnosed with prostate cancer each year¹, and their loved ones; and fund important Australian prostate cancer research,” said Graeme Higgs.
The Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia receives limited funding from government, therefore relying on the generosity of individuals and the community, and corporate partnerships. As such, the PCFA is very grateful to the Quintrex Offshore Relay team for their generosity, time and extraordinary effort.
The Quintrex Offshore Relay witnessed a Quintrex 670 Offshore visit 17 major ports between Brisbane and Melbourne via the Pacific Ocean.
In conjunction with Quintrex dealers and the PCFA, fundraising barbeques were held on the boats arrival at most stops and donations where made throughout the event.
The Quintrex Offshore Relay boat was also displayed on the JV Marine stand throughout the Melbourne Boat Show and was auctioned by cricket legend Merv Hughes with proceeds adding to the total donation amount.
